After years of fanatically playing escape rooms—always followed by long chats with the owners—Carlijn Bergshoeff decided she wanted to start an escape room herself.
During the pandemic, she found the time and space to develop an online experience. Inspired by her Indonesian roots, she created her first room: Grandfather’s Fortune.
Her grandmother’s diary and old family albums from the 1930s form the basis of this room. While good puzzles are the core of every escape room, with this story Carlijn also wants to give players a glimpse into Indonesian family life.

Freek is the developer behind the game. With an eye for detail and a passion for puzzles, he turned Carlijn’s ideas into an interactive online experience.
In 2025, he took over the game from Carlijn. He keeps Grandfather’s Fortune technically up to date and regularly implements improvements to make the game even more fun.
